Der jüdische Arzt, Philosoph und Wissenschaftshistoriker Ludwik Fleck wurde am 11. Juli 1886 im polnischen Lwów (Lemberg) geboren, das heute zur Ukraine gehört. Fleck war Seuchenmediziner, hat aber auch grundlegende Arbeiten zur Entstehungsgeschichte wissenschaftlicher Theorien veröffentlicht.

Fleck konnte zeigen, dass sich Wissenschaft im Gegensatz zu selbstgesetzten Idealen nicht entlang rationaler Vorgaben entwickelt. Was als Tatsache und Erkenntnis gilt, hängt von vorwissenschaftlichen Vorstellungen ebenso ab wie von der akzeptierten Sichtweise der Gruppe, der jemand angehört.

Fakten, die den jeweils anerkannten Auffassungen widersprechen, werden nicht wahrgenommen oder erscheinen in der Wahrnehmung so zurechtgebogen, dass sie passen. Fleck spricht von "Harmonie der Täuschungen".

Ludwik Fleck, der die Konzentrationslager Auschwitz und Buchenwald überlebte, starb vor 50 Jahren, am 5. Juni 1961, in Ness Ziona, Israel.

Klaus Blees von der Aktion 3.Welt Saar stellt Leben und Werk Flecks vor und erörtert seine Bedeutung für die Frage, ob es allgemeingültige Wahrheiten gibt oder Erkenntnisse immer relativ sind.
