Koloniale Afrikabilder wirken heute

Über 50 BesucherInnen, sehr lange Diskussionen, Interesse an weiteren Veranstaltungen.

Was will man mehr als Veranstalterin. Ein großes Kompliment geht an Haus Afrika, mit denen wir gemeinsam letzten Samstag in Saarbrücken die Veranstaltung „Afrikabilder – im deutschsprachigen Kinder- und Jugendbuch“ organisierten.

Der weiter unten verlinkte Artikel aus dem Landesteil der Saarbrücker Zeitung vom 8.9.2009 gibt sehr gut die Linien des Vortrags wieder. So verrückt es klingt: Zum einen sind Kinder- und Jugendbücher alles andere als unpolitisch und zum anderen entfalten die überwunden geglaubten Afrikabilder in „unseren Köpfen“ auch heute noch ihre Wirkung. Erinnert sei an das beharrliche Festhalten von CDU und SPD an „ihrem Helden“ Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck in Saarlouis. Seine Beteiligung an der Ermordung von 60.000 Herero 1904 im heutigen Namibia wird bewusst außen vor gelassen, wenn an seinem Geburtshaus in der Innenstadt (Silberherzstraße) an den „unbesiegten, ritterlichen Verteidiger Deutsch-Ostafrikas im Weltkriege 1914 - 1918“ gedacht wird.
An die Opfer seiner mörderischen Politik, der in der Weimarer Republik auch Sozialdemokraten zum Opfer fielen, erinnert in Saarlouis nichts.

Auch die kuriosen Ereignisse um das so genannte Abenteuermuseum Saarbrücken im Frühjahr 2009 verweisen auf die Aktualität der alten kolonialen Bilder. Aus der Partei „Die Linke“ kam damals der Vorschlag, man solle das Museum in den Gondwana Park integrieren. Menschen aus anderen Kontinenten also auf die Stufe mit Tieren stellen. Das gab es schon mal. In den „Hagenbeck’schen Völkerschauen“ wurden um 1900 Menschen aus Afrika gemeinsam mit Tieren ausgestellt und auf Jahrmärkten präsentiert. Das Projekt Abenteuermuseum wurde in Saarbrücken auf Eis gelegt, weil CDU und Grüne sich verschiedener zivilisatorischer Standards erinnerten und eine sinnvolle Entscheidung trafen.
